Should mothers be financially recognised for the hard work they do?

Someone asked this question in a magazine I was reading today.

Although I'm not yet a mother (she has been quite quiet today so maybe I will be later), I'm still thinking about my answer.

I just don't know if I want to put it out there for fear of 'getting run out of town'...
